Comedy Team Deconstructs Local Life in ‘Wawapalooza 5’

The Portlandia of Philadelphia

Philadelphia, PA – IdRatherBeHere, a film and theatre production company, announces its brand-new show Wawapalooza 5: Under Destruction. After sold out runs of Wawapaloozas 1-4, this year’s show hits home by taking on baseball fans, college kids, new parents, the Apple store, lame bachelor parties and the Laundromat. The show will be performed at Society Hill Playhouse’s Red Room from Sept 2-17.

“Our goal has always been the same- to make a show that is like a postcard to someone who doesn’t live here,” says the show’s director Bonnie Quick. “It’s kind of like the Portlandia of Philadelphia.”

The 75-minute show will intertwine 10 short sketches and 3 short films consistent with everyday modern life in the Philadelphia, South Jersey region. Past reviews:

Biting, incisive and inspired”               -   Courier Post

Spot-on. Smart, inspired and funny”   -   City Paper

Pretty ballsy.. a farcical romp”            -   Philadelphia Weekly

During Wawapalooza 5: Under Destruction you’ll see:

-    just how bad “Philly Fan Tourrette’s Syndrome” can get.

-    a mockumentary about the creation of the Universe

-    just how far new parents will go to worship their baby

-    how a lame bachelor party can be turned around

-    how an Apple store employee gets spiritual help from Steve Jobs himself

-    what happens when only one person shows up to a one-man show

-    a self-righteous college student sells out her beliefs for a car

-   why you should never, ever talk to old men at the Laundromat

-    the live taping of a Becky Rosenblatt’s Yet-To-Be-Named Vlog

-    how the death of Patrick Swayze nearly destroys a local couples’ marriage

“This year we look at the local staples like Phillies fans and dirty Laundromats, but we also parody trendy stuff like new age parents, the Apple store and atheism.”. “We even parody the Fringe Festival a bit in this year’s show,” says IdRatherBeHere cast member Augustus Milligan.
